Background

Crime statistics and media reports reflect a dark picture of crime in South Africa and our judicial system, government and corporate sector is continuously challenged with putting an end to corruption, fraud, theft and money laundering. Apart from the need to stay informed on the latest technological equipment and other new developments, investigators have to understand the methodology to be used.

Forensic Training Lab

Considering the above, DITASA (The Development Institute and Training Academy of South Africa (Pty) Ltd.) has set up a Forensic Training Lab (FTL) to equip investigators/internal auditors and risk managers to investigate complex and organised crimes/incidents. DITASA is a fully registered Private Further Education and Training College committed to transformation through training and skills development.

Services

The Forensic Training Lab (FTL) will provide both fundamental and specialised training. It will furthermore conduct research, place persons on the Alumni Programme, and provide constant feedback on international and national trends.

The following areas of workplace skills development will be focused on: Forensic investigation; corporate governance; analysis of corporate business and financial information; due diligence; project management; new venture creation; and management development.

Fundamental training: Experts will, either through seminars, workshops, one day short courses, unit standard based training or accredited qualifications, develop the fundamental skills of learners to the extent that it allows them access to specialised training.

Specialised training: During specialised training, learners will be exposed to and trained in specialised technological equipment. This equipment will equip them with the skills to become professionals in the industry. From this they will also learn precisely how technological equipment can assist during the investigation of complex crimes.

Research: As an essential principal in developing the skills of investigators and professionals, research is considered as of extreme importance. Research will extend to provide all alumni learners with information on international and national crime trends, modus operandi, court cases and other relevant information that will enhance their skills.

Technological support: The Forensic Training Lab will contain state of the art equipment to assist alumni learners in an investigation or to assist a client with crime investigation.

Conclusion

The Forensic Training Laboratory will be a highly recognised and credible institution. Not only will it incorporate all the critical elements to provide workplace skills development, but it will also involve key stakeholders whose professional input and credibility will ensure the superior development of all learners.
